The
Fourteenth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee
(POPRC.14) of Stockholm Convention will be held in FAO (Food and Agriculture Organizaiton)
headquarter in Rome, Italy, from 17 to 21 September 2018. In short, the focus
of this year's meeting is fluorinated chemicals: PFHXs, PFOA and PFOS.
- PFHXs: if it meets Annex E criteria and should move forward to Annex F evaluation.
- PFOA: to complete the listing recommendation - if exemption is needed in e.g. auto industry parts and firefighting foams.
- PFOS: to evaluate the continued need for acceptable purposes and specific exemptions in e.g. aviation hydraulic fluids, metal plating (hard metal plating only in closed-loop systems), certain medical devices, firefighting foam, electric and electronic parts for some colour printers and colour copy machines etc.
