Thailand has announced that they will be stopping plastic waste imports by 2021, after they have been inundated with waste since China's ban in January, as reported on by Unearthed.

This announcement demonstrated further the problem of waste dumping onto less developed countries which has much less capacity to manage waste (including plastic waste) in a sound manner, in the name of trade and/or recycling. It coincides with Norway's proposal to better subject plastic waste under the mandate of Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal. Will that proposal be passed in the next Conference of Parties (COP)? Association 3 Herissons patiently wait and see.
