"I don't know if you caught up on the story from a week or so ago - about a group of large fossil fuel and plastics companies coming together to pump $1bn dollars into stopping plastic waste getting into the sea? Anyway it transpires many of those same companies are investing billions in new plants to produce plastic. It highlights the fact that plastic is, in fact, a fossil fuel product - and one which many firms see as promising in a future where demand for their core product risks falling or flatlining"
