The first Global Ocean Science Report (GOSR) was released in June 2017 and was well received by stakeholders working on ocean issues. Between 24-26 April 2017, UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) convened the first meeting of the Editorial Board of the second edition of the GOSR at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. It marked the official kick-off of the second GOSR, with a target publication date set around early 2020. The connection between the second GOSR and the upcoming UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) was highlighted.
